Planning and Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Department assists residents, developers, engineers, surveyors and other interested parties in meeting their objectives by offering the highest level of service. As public servants, the Planning and Zoning Staff provides assistance through various processes. Some of which include:

Subdivision and Land Development

The Planning and Zoning Department receives, processes, and reviews all documents related to the subdivision or development of land within the Township.

Subdivision plans are submitted to the Planning and Zoning Department. Subdivisions may consist of creating one or more new lots or the addition of land to an existing lot.

Development of vacant land, redeveloping occupied land, disturbing 5000 square feet or more of earth, or constructing roads and other infrastructure requires submission of land development plans to the Township Planning and Zoning Department.

Requests for letters of support, DEP Municipal Awareness, Penn DOT Municipal Awareness, Zoning or Land Use verifications, and compliance letters are all processed in the Planning and Zoning Department.

Permits

The Planning and Zoning Department receives, reviews and issues a variety of different permits for the Township and the Antrim Township Municipal Authority.

Zoning permits are required for any change of use of an existing building or property in Antrim Township. Before purchasing a property or changing the use of a property or structure review the Zoning Permit section of the Land Use and Building Page.

Variance Applications

The Zoning Hearing Board hears requests for variances when the provisions of the Zoning Chapter (Chapter 150) of the Code of the Township of Antrim inflicts unnecessary hardship upon the applicant.

Review the criteria for obtaining a Variance by going to Chapter 150-75 entitled "Variance" of the Code of the Township of Antrim. Review this section before making application to the Township.

Application shall be made on the prescribed form and submitted to the Antrim Township Planning and Zoning Department along with the application fee. Visit the Zoning Hearing Board section listed under Departments to view the hearing schedule and cut-off dates for submitting applications.

Zoning Change Requests

The Antrim Township Board of Supervisors may amend the Zoning Map. Persons desiring to request a change of the zoning classification of their property may submit an application to the Antrim Township Planning and Zoning Department along with the application fee. It is highly recommended to reach out to the Planning and Zoning staff before making application to discuss your request.

Code Compliance and Licenses

The Planning and Zoning Department enforces of the Code of the Township of Antrim. This includes assisting residents, businesses and visitors to maintain or gain compliance of their property. This may include educating the public on how to store, cover, and dispose of solid waste, how to obtain permits for fireworks displays, how to maintain stormwater management, how to register home occupations, and many other services.

As part of code compliance, the Planning and Zoning Department issues Amusement Licenses for events held in Antrim Township. Contact this office if you are going to hold an event that involves the sale of tickets or charges admission.

Salvage yards located in Antrim Township are required to obtain a license. This license is renewed annually. Failure to obtain and maintain your license can result in your license being revoked. Contact the Planning and Zoning Department for more information.
