Solid Waste Disposal

Dumping and Littering Prohibited

It shall be unlawful for any person to store, dump, discard or deposit or to permit the storage, dumping, discarding or depositing of any Solid Waste or Recyclables upon the surface of the ground or underground within the Township. Solid Waste and Recyclables shall be stored in proper containers for prompt removal every 30 days or sooner.

Free Household Trash Disposal Available For Residents

Curbside CollectionAntrim Township residents who obtain a resident disposal card from Mountain View Reclamation may, on Saturdays from 7:00am until 11:00am, dispose of 4 thirty gallon bags of household waste, furniture, or non-Freon containing appliances without charge at the landfill located at 9446 Letzburg Road, Greencastle PA 17225. To obtain your disposal card please call (717) 597-5666 between 8:30am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Antrim Township does not provide municipal curbside trash removal. Homeowners and businesses may contract the waste disposal firm of their choice for curbside pickup.

Antrim Township Recycling Center

Effective November 4, 2017, regretfully, glass bottles and other glass recyclables will no longer be accepted at the public recycling drop-off location in Antrim Township due to the low demand for recycled glass.

Curbside RecyclingRecyclable materials may be taken to the Antrim Township Recycling Center located on the West side of Antrim Church Road between the Municipal Office and the Sunoco gas station on Saturdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm free of charge. Recyclables accepted include tin, aluminum, newsprint, corrugated cardboard, plastics (#'s 1 through 7), office paper, magazines and junk mail. Sorting is not required.

The following items are not accepted at the Township Recycling Center: Plastic bags (i.e. bags of bags), gray-board (i.e. packaging), appliances, furniture, toys, light bulbs, window glass, electronics including computers, hazardous liquids, infectious and chemotherapeutic materials, pesticides, herbicides, any batteries, tires and yard waste.

Burning

Antrim Township residents may burn yard waste on their property that is generated on their property. They may NOT bring in any waste, including yard waste, from other locations to burn.

Open burning of domestic refuse from a single family detached dwelling when generated from that single family detached dwelling is permitted as long it does not contain any materials prohibited from being burned.

Open burning of refuse from any commercial or industrial establishment is prohibited. Open burning of domestic refuse from a residential dwelling other than a single family detached home is prohibited.

Materials Prohibited from Burning

  • Construction and demolition waste.
  • Hazardous substances including but not limited to batteries, household chemicals, pesticides, used oil, gasoline, paints, varnishes and solvents.
  • Furniture, appliances and electronics.
  • Rubber including tires and synthetic rubber-like products.
  • Any plastic materials including but not limited to nylon, PVC, ABS, polystyrene or urethane foam, and synthetic fabrics, plastic films and plastic containers. Examples: beverage bottles, carpet padding and carpeting, disposable diapers and other objects containing plastic.
  • Treated, or painted wood including but not limited to plywood, composite wood products or other wood products that are painted, varnished or treated with preservatives.
  • All putrescible animal and vegetable matter resulting from the handling, preparation, cooking and consumption of food.

Junk

Junk shall not be stored on a property in Antrim Township unless such property is a licensed junk yard.

Junk is defined as any discarded material or article, which shall include but not be limited to scrap metal, scrapped, abandoned or junked motor vehicles, machinery, equipment, paper, glass, containers and structures.

A junked vehicle is any motor vehicle not contained in a building, which is without either a current inspection certificate or current registration plate; excluding vehicles utilized in a bona fide farming operation or commercial enterprise.

Mountain View Reclamation

A division of Waste Management company, the Mountain View Reclamation landfill is located partially in Antrim Township and partially in Montgomery Township. A panel of residents from both townships is appointed to make recommendations on land fill operations that may impact the two communities.
